Restaurant Review: Chaia Tacos

Tacos never go out of style. This is something that has always perplexed me. But after my visit to Chaia, I'm finally starting to understand the versatility of the humble stuffed corn shell.
Strolling through the streets of Georgetown in Washington, DC, I knew I had to make a stop at this vegetarian shop. It's been on my list of places to eat in in the city for awhile now, and with an afternoon of nothing to do but browse the shops and enjoy the early spring sun, it was an easy choice for lunch.

Step into the cozy eatery and you'll be hit with mouth-watering smells of roasted veg. Head up to the counter for a look at the completely vegetarian menu and choose any three tacos for $12. After a quick discussion of which fillings were diner faves and which were seasonal, I ended up ordering a trio of butternut squash, roasted beets, and creamy kale and potatoes. I suggest you do the same.
About five minutes later, my name was called and this Insta-worthy bowl was handed to me. Instead of digging into the usual carnitas or chicken, all three of these tacos offered exactly what I was looking for: fresh, different, and new flavours. It doesn't hurt that they're all covered in fresh cheese!

It will take all of three minutes to gobble down your first three tacos, and I don't blame you if you go back up to order more — I would've if my ride wasn't already outside! There are five tacos to choose from, as well as bright, colourful sides, like the Carrot Kohlrabi Slaw with a sweet and spicy vinaigrette and Black Beans with jalapenos and crema.
WWTip: If you order and notice all the chairs and tables by the counter are taken, don't stress. You wont have to eat your tacos standing up, street-food style. Chaia Georgetown has plenty of seating upstairs, or if it's a beautiful day outside, take your tacos to go and sit on the patio!
Final Verdict: YUM, with a side of FRESH and FLAVOUR.
